the system

The HyperScan was publically introduced at the 2006 San Diego Comic Con International. (cite) It was a "first-of-its-kind hybrid" of traditional video games (with CD-ROMs and controllers) and collectible card games with RFID technology. (citecite) Its notable features included:
* Proprietary RFID technology to scan collectible game cards and bring characters to life ...
* Advanced 32-bit processor ...
* Each game feature[d] approximately 100 corresponding game cards – 10 to 20 character cards and 80+ modification cards – with 20 to 40 hours of play on each character card. Cards [were to] be released using a matrix scheme of various series and a rarity system to drive collectibility. (cite)
Due to poor sales of systems and games, the system was discontinued in 2007. (cite) In 2009, PC World magazine named the HyperScan as one of its 10 worst video game systems of all time, listing as reasons the console's "[f]limsy construction. Terrible games. Flaky RFID reader. Extremely long loading times." (cite)

Five games were released for the HyperScan: X-Men (the included game with the console), Ben 10, Interstellar Wrestling League, Marvel Heroes, and Spider-Man. (citecite)
